We number around 25 singers, and meet weekly on Thursday evenings at Morley College , 6.45-9.15pm, during term time. Morley College is an Adult Education College in central London . With its location and distinguished history (former Directors of Music include Gustav Holst and Michael Tippett), Morley draws its students from all over London as well as from the immediate locality. The Music Department offers a programme of over 200 courses covering jazz, pop, Indian and electronic as well as western classical music, at levels covering the whole range from beginners to intending professionals. The Chamber Choir is one of our most advanced performing groups and a leading contributor to Department's very active concert life, which comprises over 100 concerts each year.
Like any choir, our core activity is learning and rehearsing music for performance to as high a standard as possible, but since we are attached to an educational institution our aims are broader than that.
We aim to give every member of the choir the feeling that their personal skills improve each year, as well as ensuring that the choir as a whole develops its sound, ensemble and sense of identity.
We perform in a variety of venues around and sometimes outside London , mainly in churches. Favourite venues include Temple Church and the Raphael Gallery in the Victoria and Albert Museum. Concert soloists are often drawn from within the choir.
